Women are increasingly stepping into positions of financial leadership, yet many still feel underserved, uncertain, or underprepared when it comes to their long-term financial security. The Allianz Women, Money, and Power® Study highlights both the progress women have made and the pressing need for financial planning that truly meets their needs.
Women Taking Charge of Finances
Nearly half of women (49%) identify as the CFO of their household, up from just 41% in 2021.
43% report being the primary breadwinner, a significant increase from 34% in 2021.
Two-thirds (60%) say they manage tax preparation and major investment or retirement planning decisions on their own.
This growing empowerment demonstrates that women are leading financial decision-making more than ever before.
The Confidence Gap and the Need for Planning
Despite taking on more responsibility, too many women remain unprepared when it comes to planning:
62% of women do not currently work with a financial professional.
Nearly one in eight women (12%) admits they have not started saving for retirement at all.
For many, it takes a crisis to highlight the gap. Nearly half (48%) of divorced women and 61% of widowed women said their life event created a financial crisis that made them realize how critical it is to be financially aware and independent.
These findings highlight the urgent need for proactive planning before unexpected events create financial strain.
What Women Want to Know
Women are eager for financial knowledge, especially when it comes to retirement:
85% want to learn how to maintain their desired lifestyle in retirement.
85% want strategies to guarantee lifetime income.
Over 90% say they need to be more involved in financial strategies.
Financial education, paired with actionable planning, empowers women to turn financial responsibility into financial confidence.
